We had an incredibly inspiring 2012 kickoff meeting at Jeanne Tate’s. There were so many good things to talk about that it’s hard to know where to start. First, our guest speaker Karen Mertes, Lt. Col. (Ret.), USAF is a marvelous example of what strength of spirit, faith and will power can do to overcome adversity. The organization she founded is Fulfill Your Destiny. I won’t go into her story, because it would spoil it for you. If you ever have the opportunity to hear Karen speak – do so. You will come away in awe of what she has accomplished and strongly motivated to do more.
Second on my list is a former client of BALS. Spare time has to be hard to come by for her. She is a student at USF and works full time. Plus, she is caring for a beautiful baby girl, her 7 month old niece. We appreciate both of them taking time to visit with us. It was a good reminder of why we do all that we can to help BALS.
Next on my list of wonderful things to celebrate was the number of new faces we saw at the meeting. We had 23 first time meeting attendees. Thanks to everyone who invited a guest. I challenge all of our members to top that number next time.
Last, but not least, a big thank you goes to Jeanne Tate. Despite having carpal tunnel surgery earlier that day, she opened up her fabulous home to our new friends and old members. We love you Jeanne for all you do for BALS and the community.
Our next meeting will be on May 24th. Our guest speaker will be Dr. Sylvia Campbell. I’m sure that another good time will be had by all. I look forward to seeing you there.
